“And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Peace means different things to different people. For some, it can be a solo trip to a mountain cabin, or a vacation to a beautiful tropical paradise. For others, it can be simply staying in bed with the covers over your head.
The definition of peace is tranquility, calm, and rest. We often feel these qualities are missing in our lives. Living in a 24-hour nonstop news cycle, dealing with social media, and juggling family and careers are challenging enough for most people. “I just want some peace!”, someone might yell out when they’ve reached the end of their rope.
True and lasting peace cannot be found in a certain place or activity. It only comes from the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ. How do we find this peace in this noisy world we live in?
First, we have to consider what peace means to us. As stated, it means different things to different people. What does it mean to you specifically?
Second, we must humbly approach the Lord and get right with Him. This means confessing our sins and asking Him to wash us of all our iniquities.
Next, we need to pray for God’s peace to fill us. We need to have His Spirit guide us into receiving His peace.
We must also read His Word the Bible, find verses that speak directly to our hearts, and claim them as our own. This helps us to ground ourselves in what God says about peace and how we can receive it for ourselves. Some excellent verses to start with are Psalm 4:8, Psalm 34:14, Matthew 5:9, John 14:27, and of course, Philippians 4:7.
If you stay close to God, you can have wonderful peace, no matter what is happening around you. Peace can be yours!
