Isaiah 41:10
Who to turn to in this troubled world.
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee, be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” (KJV)
“I’m a nervous wreck,” my friend admitted to me. “I don’t like either candidate. I am so worried about where this country is headed. What kind of future do my kids have? Everything is going down the toilet. I’m so afraid. I don’t know what to do anymore.”
“The first thing you should do is stop worrying,” I told her. “You can cast your vote but it’s out of your control. What you should be doing is pray instead.”
“I knew you were going to say that to me.” She smiled. “That’s your answer for everything.”
“God is the answer to everything. He knows what we need but still wants us to pray to Him about it.”
“I don’t have much time for prayer these days.”
“If you have time to worry you have time to pray instead.” I shared the message of Isaiah 41:10. “A lot of what you’re worrying about is out of your control. You’re afraid because you can’t control it. God can. Everything is in His control.”
“Do you honestly believe that?”
I assured her that I did. I used to be a worrier. I used to be afraid of things I couldn’t control because I didn’t know the outcome. None of us know what the future holds. Everything is in God’s hands. My friend said I had “pie in the sky” dreams and that I put too much trust in religion. I assured her I wasn’t religious at all and that surprised her. Religion is about rules. I told her I had a relationship with the Lord which involved giving Him my fears and worries. It also meant trusting in Him for the strength I needed.
We live in tumultuous times. We may place our faith in one candidate over another. What happens when that candidate doesn’t win? When we put our trust in God, He will be with us. He will give us strength, peace, and hope. We don’t have to worry or be afraid. The future is in His hands.
Questions to consider:
Are you worried or afraid about something that is out of your control?
Have you put your hope and trust in a person instead of God?
Do you believe God will always take care of you?
Can you turn your panic into peace by meditating on this verse today?
